NSRA Range

#1 Post by Dannywayoflife »

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

The NSRA range at the lord Roberts centre. What's the process for using this as I'd like to do some practice with my .22 and are they ok with multi position shooting such as kneeling, sitting, and standing.

Thanks :)

1. Ring up book a slot on the range
2. Arrive at the front desk and immediately get annoyed at the ignorant fat dragon lady manager who works there you will recognise here as the one that looks like she can't be arsed to even speak her customer service skills are excellent btw.
3. She will then get the staff at the gun shop to inspect your gun (because she knows nothing)
4. Then the chubby but doable ex navy girl will take you onto the range to shoot a group which said dragon lady will inspect.
If her majesty is happy you can shot.

If you have a semi auto they will moan if you shoot to fast so be warned. I didn't have a great experience there on my first visit with my bolt action rifle
so I won't be going back.

Just a little balance .... I like a balanced life, if not a diet :)

I turned up, showed my NSRA membership (to get the cheaper price) said I was a member of a small club in Sussex. The guy (no dragons in sight) took me to the 50m range (I didn't even know where it was), showed me how the equipment worked and left me to it for 2 hours. Didn't ask to look in my rifle case or ask if I could even hit the target :)

Spent a peaceful 2 hours throwing 150+ rounds of Eley Match down range and marvelling at the fact I didn't have to lose position looking through my spotting scope.

Walked out with a veritable toilet role of scoring printout.

So it can be a nice experience (2nd time was exactly the same) but maybe I've been lucky.

Can you shoot any .22"RF there - e.g. military trainers or sporting rifles - or will they only permit rifles with target sights?

Probably worth a call first. Not sure they would like their 50m electronic targets shot out but there are other shorter ranges I believe.

I've shot there quite a few times, and never had a problem with customer service. They've never even asked to see any evidence of membership.
What I did have a problem with was on one occasion when, having rang the day before to confirm availability, I drove up from Southampton to find the place set up for a wedding reception, so no shooting............
I'd planned to shoot small bore in the morning, and 1000yds full-bore with the NRA shooting club in the afternoon...............at approximately 13-45, woodland immediately adjacent to Stickledown butts caught fire which spread to the target frames..............I managed to fire one shot that day.
