Looking for recommendations for a tough range bag (patrol bag style).

Some of you may recall this previous thread on range bags. On the strength of it I bought a Tactical Jack bag, and initial impressions were very good. Unfortunately it started to fray after about 4 trips to the range, and by the end of the season (about 25 days of actual use) the frayed liner catching in the zip was becoming a pain.

I do like the stiffened patrol bag style, and a full-length external rear pocket that can take a weather-writer is essential (I think this rules-out the 5.11 patrol bag).

At the moment I'm considering the Protec M25. Any others that I should look at?

I've had several bags from Bold Action (I think in Holland?) who attends the May Phoenix meetings. They have lasted me well. Check their web site or save up for May meeting!!

This is the one I have. Maybe a bit more expensive than others, certainly than those for the Bisley shows, but I've found it to be worth every penny.

I've been using the M25 bag for about 2 years and the smaller version for 18 months both still as good as new.They are good value for money and were available in a desert tan.

GMK sell a cartridge bag for £23.
The shoulder strap points are Mickey Mouse, but aside from that it seems like a good design.
One nice feature is that it has a Gladstone bag type hinged-opener built-in to the zipper.

Going to tweak mine a little & put on new/relocate the carry strap attachment point's.

If you have a chance, please could you let me know the internal length of the M25 main compartment?

The specs give the length as 60cm - I guess this is overall. My Tac Jack just hits 60cm external length with the end pockets bulging with waterproofs etc. Main compartment is about 42cm inside.

I think I used to put my weather write on top of the 511 bag, it fitted quiet well from memory.

I carry pretty well everything round either in a belt pouch (old S6 ressie bag) or drag bag side pockets these days so its redundant.

I still have this bag in good nick if you want to try it sometime.

5.11 - excellent gear.

Mine has been all over the world and it's still as good as the day it was bought (8 years ago). Same with the rucksack/daysack whatever they are called nowadays..It regularly gets 15kg in it and stashed in overhead lockers etc..

I second this, I've used this for 2 years now packing in a Leupold spotting scope, Harris bipods, .375"H&H .416" Rigby rounds, GSG5 mags, cleaning gear, toolkits and the straps have never failed. At first I thought it was too big but I've managed to fill all of the pockets.

It's not cheap but you'll only need to buy it once.

The other one is OK if you want a place for pistol mags...pays yer money etc etc.. Good kit though, well worth the money.
