What is your favourite Gallery Rifle cartridge? I currently shoot under levers chambered in .357 Mag for local competitions and general range shooting and take a 30-30 along every couple of weeks however I have noticed there are a fair few shooters with heavier stuff. So what about the 44's and 45's, are they worth considering and is there anything in particular to take a closer look at?
I am sure I spotted a couple of 45ACP cases on the floor at the end of the last meeting, is this a common choice?

I like the 44mag, it's a proper man sized cartridge (size wise) which makes case prep, handling and reloading etc. much easier for those of us with sausage sized fingers that are becoming arthritic
And it shoots quite nicely too

It's for gamey buggers, makes bigger holes so can cut a line where a .38/.357 won't.
I prefer .38 & .22.

38 and 22 for me too - mostly 22. I do shoot 357 occasionally when the mood takes me, but not very often. I don't cook my own loads, so it's always factory made stuff.

I shoot a 20" octagonal barrel S/S Rossi '92 in 45 Colt for gallery comps. The 250gn bullet is accurate and isn't affected as much by crosswind.

I haven't competed for a few years in GR but intend to return so keep my hand in.
I shoot .357Mag LBR and Marlin underlever (scoped for 1500, T&P, Multi-target, Advancing target)
I use .45Colt Marlin Cowboy with irons.
.22LR 10/22
New addition- LBP

.44 for the reasons above and the fact I never got to fill my .44 pistol slot before the chance to disappeared.

As I shoot light loads, for me it has to be the .44-40.
All the advantages of a .44 Mag listed above, plus because it's a significantly thinner case I get excellent obturation even with my light (<6Gr bullseye) loads so the cases and action stay much cleaner than my .44 Mag.
And it's nice to have something a little different. Quite fancy finding a .38-40 at some point.

Has anyone come across or shot a 45ACP under lever?
