Mosin PU mount options!

Hi all
It's been a while!
My last shoot at Bisley a couple of weeks ago, my crap Chinese copy PU scope fell apart inside leaving me with darkness!
I had a thought to put a modern scope on it to see how well it performs and was wondering what the PU 1" mounts are like on eBay?! Anyone used them?
I've got a 3/4" scope that would work and 9x or a bloody massive Vortex which is I think way to big 24x zoom!
Could I get some reducer ring to fit the 1" mount to bring it down to 3/4?
Don't want to do any drilling/tapping, just use the existing mount.
All help welcome please! I'm trying to keep it cheapish
Cheers

Hi Martin,
See if you can find an original PU scope like this,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281651433973? ... MEBIDX%3AI
I have seen them at the Bisley arms fairs this year, & means you do not have to change the mount.
They will not fall apart like the copy PU's.

Hello mate
Hope your well.
I would like a original scope on there if I can get one at the right price. How can I tell the difference between a original and copy? What should I look for?

I got one from this guy, it was described as original and I believe that it is. It's got the correct screws and the mount has the correct machining marks etc, supposedly that's one of the ways that you can tell. It came in from Moldova and I'm very happy with it

Lots of info on the 'net on how to tell a genuine scope from a fake, quite a few sellers in Russia and the Ukraine sell genuine PU (and PEM) scopes and as a rule you will pay more for a genuine one but it is worth it as there is a big difference between a genuine and a fake in terms of quality and reliability.Russia churned out literally millions of PU scopes so genuine ones aren't hard to find.......and they were still in use with the Russian army in Chechnya well into the 90s.

Just my opinion but I wouldn't put a modern scope on a Mosin sniper

+1, The PU with its calibrated 7,62x54 dial is so perfect for a Mosin that I can not image anything else. The optic quality of an original PU scope actually represents excellent value for money that will be difficult to match by modern scope.
http://www.depotmilitary.com/index.php?id=45 will tell you more about fakes. among other things, a simple way is to see if the reticule moves when you turn the elevation & the windage turrets and from a seller's picture look at the top of the 3 screws on each turrets . They should not be flat but have a dome shape.
If you insist on modern scope, may I kindly remind you that Siberia is very cold & un-comfortable place at this time of the year
