Jed Burn, a clay pigeon shooter who has represented Scotland, had his certificate revoked after police saw a video on his Facebook page of him taking part in the Neknominate drinking prank.

Young man does harmless thing, police in Nationalist Socialist Scotland seize on excuse to revoke his FAC and SGC, BASC sticks the boot in.

Harmless prank? - more like another excuse for the resident Journo to stick the boot in to both the Police and BASC - so boring now.

I actually think the BASC statement is a good one! - so you condone "messing about with firearms and alcohol?"

Sorry Gaz,

don't agree, caught in charge of a car whilst intoxicated you face losing your licence, unacceptable behaviour with a firearm, he's been foolish and paid the price.

I have to agree with ZZR1100 & Artiglio, he shouldn't have done what he did, he has been foolish.

I for one are careful about dealing with awful customer service because I am aware if they call Plod I could loose my license because of an aggressive nature or some such twoddle.

Don't like it? Don't read it. kukkuk

The police claimed he was messing about with firearms and alcohol. He says he put water in the bottle (edit to add, and I can well believe that he didn't down half a bottle of vodka in one gulp and wouldn't have wanted to, other than appearing to for the sake of his tongue in cheek video). As the police didn't bother showing up at court to present any evidence at all to defend their allegation, the judge restored his certificates to him, rightly concluding that the police had done the wrong thing in the absence of any evidence to support the revocation.

I despair when shooters themselves take allegations that weren't even defended at court as gospel truth. Gawd forbid anyone should go through your forum posts (or GOM!) or other social media for incriminating remarks and build a case against you on the strength of those alone.

Gaz,

Overall the result was fair, he behaved like a fool, got his hand smacked and hopefully has learnt his lesson. He's retained his ticket. To my mind the police did the right thing including not contesting in court. I have not taken the accusations as being gospel (regarding the bottle actually containing vodka, but he could no more prove the bottle contained water than the police could it had vodka in), the police probably didn't need the aggro, but it was irresponsible on the shooters part.
Gives the sport a negative image and in the highly unlikely event the same person were to cause harm with his shotgun in the future the police can say they tried.
Personally I'd say response was appropriate from both the police and BASC.

regards phil

Mike, to be fair messing about with firearms without alcohol is a start mate ;)
