Hi, so my license says I can purchase a .22 rifle.

My ammunition list says .22RF on it.

So I presume I can buy and shoot a .22WMR?

I"ll ask the police if in doubt but what does the collective FB think?

I would check with your local firearms dept.

My FAC issued by Norfolk/Suffolk, specifies .22 R/F and .22 R/F Magnum as separate calibres.

ukrifleman.

Mine too.

.22LR for Sako Quad and Ruger 10/22 PLUS a separate slot for the .22WMR barrel (Sako) and .22WMR ammunition is listed separately too.

Always double check, leave nothing to chance as any mistake can and will be used against you. As long as each force makes up its own rules it's folly to rely on the experience of members residing in areas covered by more sensible forces.

My old FAC listed .22RF and .22Mag seperately by order of plod..

If it says .22RF then as long as you buy a .22RF that is fine. If it says .22LR then you can only buy a .22LR. Likewise, if it says .22WMR, that's your lot.

According to the expert I spoke to at BASC, there is case law on this where the judge said to the police, if you meant rim fire you should have said rim fire (or words to that affect). The defendant bought a .22CF rifle on a '.22 rifle' slot. Unfortunately I cannot find the precedent just now and I'm off to watch The Martian.

There are 100 bits of law governing the lawful possession of firearms, of which 34 are statute and the rest are case law. It would be great if the 63 bits of precedent were made public, as then police employees hellbent on making it up as they go along wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

My FAC just lists .22 rifle and the ammo states .22, so out of interest I asked my feo if I could get a rifle in .22WMR or a .22 CF but I was told I can only buy what I applied for originally (.22LR).
