Visitor's permit

I have a friend visiting from the States who wants to bring a rifle over so as to go stalking with me.
My local force (Durham!!!) insist on seeing a copy of his American gun licence. This is a problem as in his area the are NOT required.
Has anybody had any experience of this.
I've had a look on the Home Office guidelines but there is no mention of needing to see the visitors home country licence.

Good old Durham Firearms licensing where ignorance trumps reason at every turn.

Surely a scan of his drivers licence from that state and a link to somewhere (official) that explains they don't have a firearms license in that state should be enough?

They've got a copy of his driving licence and his concealed carry licence. I also informed them that he is the retired Chief of Police for his area!
Got BASC on the case

I hope BASC do better for you than they did for their members who had to hand in their guns for six months for no reason other than Durham was making up their own fantasy rules.

No, just totally imcompetent at that time little people were given credence far beyond their abilities so small minded petty policies designed to inconvenience were pursued.
The whole disgraceful debacle, compounded by the small minded pettiness and spitefulness of the NSRA, was reported here at the time.
Things do seem to be improving with new senior officer in charge but the staff are still inexperienced, straight forward variation turn-arounds are better now and they are doing the risk management of FAC holders that most other FL departments are adopting.
