I was at the range Friday doing my normal practice stint with the Viking calling the shots when everything suddenly drifted off to the left hand side of the target so rifle unloaded and sights inspected and the front sight was loose in the dovetail which was a bit unexpected. The dovetail was easily tightened however it set me thinking, the little black blob at the front is easily lost against a dark target and as much as I prefer the Buckhorn rear to a Peep sight for target acquisition I really could do with an upgrade now so can anyone suggest some suitable lever gun iron sights for accuracy and quick acquisition of target please.

Quite a few Lyman front blade replacement units out there - either a gold or "ivory" bead - available in a range of blade heights & bead diameters
Not expensive either, just a drift fit into the front base dovetail
Got SimG a Lyman No2 Tang site for one of his toys the other week as well

This. I've got a set of fire-sights on my Marlin and it is such a great improvement over the standard semi-buckhorn sights. Some minor filing was required to fit the front sight into the dovetail so should be a walk in the park for you Dave. It was really easy to "zero" for myself as when I bought my Marlin it came with the williams peep sight which is fitted to the drilled & tapped screw holes in the rear (which I never really got on with), so I just knocked out the standard Marlin rear iron sight, put in the rear William's fire sight and lined it up with the Williams peep sight and standard front sight. Once I had the new sight lined up I simply swapped out the front sight and re-alligned them again. Once complete I could just remove the peep sight and when shooting at 25m I found that it was spot on with no further adjustments required.
