Good "how to" from Firearms UK.

We all know how anti gun ownership the press and their prostitute journalists are, using IPSO as focus for complaints about their bigoted over sensationalised and deliberately inaccurate reporting of firearms stories is a good idea and something we should all help with b complaining whenever we see such.

Firearms UK is a great name IMHO. Very much a Ronseal deal. I wish they were the UK representative organisation for firearms in the UK. If they organised a membership and insurance I'd be there as quick as you could say Banana.

Yes their message and ethos is a good one....I've donated money to them for their continued struggle.....just the name seems a bit full on...

The 'tool' as opposed to the *action*? I think they have it just right.

We have plenty of softly, softly organisation that do a decent job. One or two that are a bit more to the point can't hurt.

Mostly reasonable stuff but the advice about ignoring contact from the newspaper is silly and counterproductive. These sorts of schemes focus on the ongoing harm caused. If the newspaper corrects the harm (inaccurate picture, etc) ahead of the IPSO hearing, there is no harm for them to adjudicate on. The paper can also point out that they attempted to clarify and resolve the matter with you and you refused to engage, which makes the licensed firearms community look like a bunch of petty children wailing away in the corner.
It also doesn't point that the worst serial offenders - the Independent, I, Evening Standard, Guardian and Observer newspapers, and their associated websites - are not subject to IPSO because the rich people who own them have decided press regulation is for the little people.
(the Guardian does have a so-called Readers' Editor. His function is like Anne Robinson on Points of View: to mercilessly mock and ridicule those unfortunates who think he is an actual regulator)
Neither does it point out that Channel 4 (another regular offender on shooting matters) is regulated by Ofcom, while their website is a grey area - they regularly use the website to air written material, often based on opinion and personal prejudice, that would have them severely slapped by Ofcom if they broadcast it on air.

Thanks for sharing and the kind words of support folks.
Regarding membership it's something people often enquire about at this stage we are still run and largely funded by our own small team. We are looking to expand in numbers but membership would probably require a full time job and as we all work, study etc it could be difficult.
We will have a stall at the great northern shooting show next may and the team will also be using the opportunity to meet up and discuss future planning.
Perhaps we will see some of you there.
