I gotta wonder how it would do with half the glass but with gaps between each sheet.

I think I read/saw about buffers being used to create a new surface which requires more energy to break each new pane of glass than the initial impact breaking the solid block of glass and every piece behind it because they're touching...

Also add that effect with placing the glass in triangles within the box:

Code: Select all

-------------------
\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
-------------------
I'm sure you could stop more with less glass.

Deflection... or something... #NotAPhysicist

I believe 12 bore slug is particularly effective against bullet "proof" glass.

We knows a thing or two* 'bout armour, ooman. It's down to things like the Gibbs Free Energy and complicated stuff like fracture mechanics, impedance and elastic modulus mismatching, stress transmission and energy absorption. In a nutshell, it generally requires more energy to start a crack than to propagate one, hence modern armours are more multi-layer laminates with vastly differing impedance betwixt adjacent layers. Add in a few hard layers to try and shatter the incoming projectile, a few tough ones to destabilise it, a few brittle ones to send it elsewhere along a line of lesser resistance...

Well, we think you get the idea...

* But not everything. Quite...

Oh indeedy, but not difficult to overcome with a spark of imagination and touch of elektrikkery, or even an elastic band...

Its difficult enough, armored vehicle manufacturers have being trying to come up with defences against shaped charge warheads since ww2 with varying success. ERA for example isn't always effective.
