Is fireclean cooking oil?

Never heard of fireclean...so not really bothered either way

It's reported as the new miracle gun cleaner it's been aggressively marketed in the US by all the big names in the shooting community.

Bore Tech cleaning kit was also highly recommended.

Note they don't address the claim that it is cooking oil - that much is clear from the patent.

I think if the folks kicking up the fuss had started by saying "Fireclean is just a mix of cooking oils" then things would be a lot clearer. The whole 'repackaged xyz brand' stuff is daft as obviously that's not what they would do - they would just go to a bulk supplier for their raw materials as anyone else would.

Can you just use cooking oil instead? Most probably. Might make your rifle smell like cod and chips twice. The challenge for me would be to not add vinegar and mushy peas ;)

I read that some U.S. Ar shooters tried using Crisco & regretted it.
