30-30 WInchester - To crimp or not?

I have a 30-30 Winchester Model 94 here and need to load some ammunition for it. Does anyone have any views on crimp versus no crimp in an under lever. I have a Lee two die set to be getting on with and will be shooting .309" 150 grain cast soup cans without a gas check.

Agree--you must crimp or risk a blow-up if the bullet is pushed back into the case when feeding from the lifter.

Light crimp using the Lee collet crimp die.
With light loads the recoil is unlikely to push the boolits backwards.
BTW I sent you RN boolits in error so load them one at a time.

Roger, if anything they look like round nosed flats and the dies I have do not crimp. Add to that I suspect a flaring mandrel would not go amiss so it may be as well top start again with things or single feed them for the time being.

Cheers Jon, I will keep an eye out for it, meanwhile I have better machine a mandrel to slightly flare the case mouths if I am going to prevent bullet shaving.

Yes you need to make a case mouth expander flaring tool. I use semi wad cutters in my under lever. I use a light crimp.

Sounds more like hair stylists' convention than Full Bore

I make my own expander buttons based on the Lyman expander spuds.
