Taking air rifles & pistols to Scotland

#1 Post by walesdave »

Didn't want to hijack the taking rifles to Scotland thread but it made me think....

When the Scottish airgun licensing rules come into force what's the score with travelling to Scotland with a (non-FAC) airgun?

I've had a quick Google but can't see anything online about it.

They can't be entered on our (non-Scottish) FACs, so think we'll need to apply for a European firearms pass??? kukkuk

Ok....had a bit more of a Google and found this on the BASC website:
16. I live in England but come up to Scotland to shoot the rabbits on my uncle’s farm with my shotgun, .22 rimfire rifle and my air rifle. Can I still come to Scotland and bring my guns with me?

When the legislation is in place you will still be able to come to Scotland with your shotgun, your .22 rimfire rifle and your air rifle up to the date when your Shot Gun Certificate, or Firearm Certificate, is renewed. After this date you will need to apply for a Visitors Permit for your air rifle, but not for your shot gun or .22 rimfire rifle.

I don't normally use bad language on forums....but what a load of bo...cks. Take your shotguns and firearms North of the border with no paperwork or hassle, but your 2ft lbs ancient air pistol is going to need a 'visitors permit' wallhead

Don't worry, give the SNP a few more years and you'll have to do the same with your rifle and shotgun too :good: troutslapping

RIDICULOUS STATEMENT

There'll be skips at BorderKontrol for you to deposit firearms in prior to crossing ze border - for a fee - and a fee to return them to you IF you make it back to the border again

SNP MSP expenses HAVE to be paid for from somewhere & there are not enough tax paying workers to allow the SNP trough to be filled to the level they wish to maintain their lifestyles at....

I assume it will be the same as here.
Whilst Northern Ireland, The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are UK sovereign territory, visitors permits for Great Britain are not valid in those parts of the UK. Additional permissions are needed from the police authorities in those places. Anyone who wishes to take their firearms to Northern Ireland should be aware that a valid certficate of approval, from the Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), is also required. Air weapons are also required to be licensed in Northern Ireland and the same approval from PSNI is necessary. Advice on obtaining the approval can be found on the PSNI website.
