Holiday in USA what can I legally bring back?

#1 Post by UnkySi »

I know with the ITAR regulations some stuff cannot be bought for export but on the other hand some stuff is ok.
I'm looking at getting a powder metering unit layman gen 6 which I think will be ok but dies and bullet heads? Papua brass etc? Anybody have recent experience?

One thing you might want to look for are antique firearms. You can apparently pick them up for fairly cheap in the US and sell them for a large profit back here. Check the laws first though, of course.

No components or cases (except empty shotshell cases as these are ITAR exempt)

I sold my last Gen6 the other week for £210 shipped. If you get a US one make sure it has the correct EU 220V transformer....not a US 110V one.

Dies are ok - presses are ok - scales are ok - most other reloading devices/gadgets are ok

Bullets NO - same for bullet heads (as these are specially reserved for Tier 1 Super Secret Ninja Alphabet Agency Squirrels only - given that they have uranium pixie dust on them & a unicorn-horn core - so that they penetrate dreams & destroy rainbows)

The ITAR section that may be of interest is Part 121 - The Munitions List - namely:
Category III-Ammunition

*(a) Ammunition for the arms in Categories I and II of this section. (See § 121.6.)

(b) Components, parts, accessories, and attachments for articles in paragraph (a) of this category, including but not limited to cartridge cases, powder bags, bullets, jackets, cores, shells (excluding shotgun shells), projectiles, boosters, fuzes and components therefor, primers, and other detonating devices for such ammunition. (See § 121.6.)

(c) Ammunition belting and linking machines.

*(d) Ammunition manufacturing machines and ammunition loading machines (except handloading ones).

If it in the current US military supply chain - no
Which makes ZERO sense, as the Aimpoints issued are "Made in Sweden"!!

Scopes with "mil-dot" reticles are not allowed to be exported

Quite a few other types are similarly not available for sale/export....which is ridiculous given that the same US Gov't arms half the factions they end up fighting against - as well as making sure Mexican cartels have enough weapons to keep the drug war hot...

As soon as Obummer is booted out & replaced, then the sooner ITAR can be booted out & we can get back to normal shopping!!

One day I bought 1000 Lake City Match .30-06 cases for about $80!!! :squirrel:
All VietNam dated too....

There's no ban on "Mil Dot" scopes, the only scopes not allowed are those with image enhancement and those specifically designed for the US military.

As for electronic powder measures, I picked up a Hornady LnL for under £130, ManVenture Outpost have them listed at $192.55

Nope, was thinking about one of those reproduction No.32 scopes for a No.4.

Ah - but YUK

Why not go for a genuine period correct "limited issue" scope that IS the same as one used in WW2 - but by them there Canada-ians.
There was a Canuck version of the No.4(T) that used a Lyman Alaskan....get a 4x one of them & a set of reducer rings for a repro bracket & you'll be good to go

How big are they? Could I reasonably fit one in my suitcase? just need a stepdown transformer to run it?
