Anyone tried it? Soapy water, rinse, dry?
Does work well enough to be worth the hassle?

Nah, just dump it and replace.

I have been using a 'corn cob' media but much finer. It does not block/stick in flash hole. It came via a pet shop that uses it for reptile bedding.
This was dirt cheap (excuse the pun!) so use and chuck.

As a quick fix rip some kitchen tissue into small squares and tumble it with the media, it does help to clean the media.

Also cheap and effective is fine walnut media (25/52 grit) from bulk abrasives suppliers (this is what gets marked-up and sold as reptile substrate). We did a
group buy of 250Kg last month and it came to £30 per 25Kg sack - the same stuff is also
available on eBay for £50.00 delivered.
After cleaning about 20,000 cases my cleaning media is still working well (with a drop of fresh polish from time to time).
De-lubing media doesn't last so long though.
I've heard of people cleaning media in the past; I think they lived in Arizona though, so drying it wasn't a problem.

Dromia advised adding some white spirit which I found to be quite effective, my cases much brighter now. Had the same media for years, cleans 100+ every week, must change it sometime though.

Thanks everyone.
I would normally chuck it, but I won't be near a shop selling the stuff for a while and I don't want to pay the postage.
I have used walnut media before but didn't like it as it's so small it gets everywhere.
I'll try the paper towel trick.
