Hi
I have .30 cal rifle on my fac, would this cover me for various calibres ie .300 wm, .300 rum, .30 06 etc
Got it put on there a while back with intent to get a straight pull m1 carbine but have gone off the idea now.

According to the H.O guidance yes, people should put down the calibre ie .224 not the chambering ie .22/250.

It doesn't normally work like that in real life though, because I suspect over regulation has been allowed in the past due to staffing levels, maybe now there's less licensing staff, we'll have less unnecessary restrictions, a bit of sense/flexibility would be refreshing!

I agree, it should cover you, however some RFD's might not be happy adding a firearm to your cert without the specific calibre written down. If you are travelling to pick up a firearm, make sure the RFD in question is happy with ".30" only stated on your cert, just in case you have a wasted journey.

Afterall, there is a huge difference between .30 carbine and say .30-06!

It does give some flexibility though, I once had 7.62mm as a variation on my cert, so could have gone for 7.62x51, x39 or x57r !

Thanks guys.
fancy a .300 wm for my next purchase and my feo seemed fine with that.
kent police have always been good regarding listing just calibres, i have had 6.5 rifle, and have got .30 rifle, 7.62 rifle and .44/.45 ml revolver. It does give a better choice when looking to buy.

I know a couple of RFD's that wouldn't sell you anything as they'd reckon they'd never heard of .224 calibre lol

You will be fine with it, I had a slot for a .30 cal rifle I explained to my feo that I wanted a choice, didn't bat an eyelid, got the variation and got myself .300 wimag, although I soon sold it as for me for what I did it gave me no advantage over a .308 but burned twice as much powder but if you want something with a thump try a .300 RUM

Rare calibre, cases only found in a few old Russian rifles with poor head space lol ...

Cheers kev. I pretty much said the same thing to my feo, as i was in two minds between .30 carbine and .30 06.
was you shooting 1000 yds with the .300wm, as i thought it would have more legs than the .308 at distance.
have you got a .300 rum, as i looked at that too but seemed quite expensive to feed.
