Scottish certificate renewals are taking 9 months, says BASC

#1 Post by Gaz »

The chief inspector in charge of Police Scotland’s firearms licensing unit has been forced to deny that his department is trying to reduce the number of firearms in Scotland as BASC reveals some of its members have waited up to 9 months for routine certificate renewals.

As I say above, I don't think the licensing department are operating that policy - but their bosses almost certainly are.

Yes!! Your SNP Marxist party at work.

My recent renewal took about five months, looked as though it wasn't going to come through in time, point blank said I wasn't paying for storage for twenty guns, it came just in time.

Anybody on here had to pay for storage?

Can people not make a claim against Police under Small Claims?

My best mate lives in the Highlands. He's an experienced shooter who is returning to the sport. His application for a SGC is still "being processed".....

4 months so far.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Isn't the one that dislikes him the least the same thing? HALF Joking.

This situation in Scotland is only going to get worse as the airgun licensing debacle gets into full flow.

Now rubbing my crystal ball (oo er) i then predict;

1/ The shooting orgs/shooters will press the police/PCC
2/ The police/PCC will say to the government they can't cope
3/ The government will use it as an excuse to jack the cost of grants and renewals up with the publics wholehearted support.

Within two years of the firearms licensing powers being devolved from Twatminster to Embra private ownership of firearms in Scotland will be banned.

Methinks dromia has a fair point! It's a vote catcher to maintain the inerest of the hard of thinking who voted them in.

As police cuts start to bite I think this will also be an issue south of the border, if it isn't already.

It's been having an adverse effect in England & Wales since the first round of cuts.
