Mosin 91/30 update.

Some time back I shimmed the action in my 1939 Izhevsk 91/30 using credit card material for the shims and last week I decided to fabricate steel ones instead out of an old 54r spam can.While it was apart I wrapped a piece of oiled canvas around a 6cm section of the barrel in the vicinity of the front barrel band as the Russian snipers used to do.I managed to get to the range today and had to settle for the 50m range as the 100m was booked, so proceeded to shot some five shot groups with three different types of ammo.First off was some 174gr Barnaul followed by some 180gr Sellior&Bellot and lastly some good old 150gr Russian milsurp.
The milsurp seemed best but group size was around the 3-4" size!......so I removed the handguard, loosened the action and moved the wrap on the barrel about an inch closer to the muzzle and reassembled everything.The next five shots with each type of ammo closed right up and a bit of experimenting with action screw tightness it closed up a bit more and below is my last five shots with the 150gr milsurp which it seems to prefer.I pulled the second shot hence the flyer but I don't think its a bad group for a 76 year old Mosin with a barrel that nearly resembles a sewer pipe.
