Continuing our education on matters .243", oomans, we're wondering what the .243 offers that isn't done better by 6.5x55 or sundry other 6.5mm rounds. Apart from being a short action cartridge, we can't see that it has any advantage over the Swedish 6.5

It has the advantage of being the smallest we can use on deer, so relatively easy to get granted early on in people's shooting careers, whereas a 6.bowl???? Is "omg big" in most feo's eyes

Both will kill deer with aplomb and punch targets, likewise. I like the .243 because of the short action and the mind boggling selection of bullets available. Because of its popularity in the UK, you will never run short of co ponents or factory ammo.

Play along with the FEO and get a .243, then apply for a 6.5 later. Simples. :good:

or you could ask the FEO exactly how a .243 is safer than a 6.5x55 ?
and thats before asking whether or not the .243 is actually Deer legal in terms of muzzle energy in the shorter barrel lengths prefered by some modern hunters.
