Well I have sent off my application forms for the renewal of my current FAC,,,I have also applied for a variation for a .243..
just wondering now if they will want me to drop one of my other rifles,,,seems from what I've heard from other people that this is whats happening when they have asked for variations recently...
My brother in law,,,had a .22lr asked for a .17hmr was granted it but had to lose the .22 slot...then went for .223 no probs,, then went for .243 granted but lost his .223 slot?? another friend of mine had a simalier experience,,,not sure if it was because they had Closed Tickets (restrictions in place) whereas I have an open ticket no restrictions in place,,so maybe it wont effect me???
But who knows,,,how do others have so many different types of firearms on their FAC's???

I suspect it is going to be down to regions and the number of firearms on the FAC. Certainly in my area I have not heard of anyone having problems adding another slot.

Barney,
Do you shoot deer or just vermin?
Are you allowed 308 for fox? Do you still have your 223rem?
:)

Couple of blokes in our club have their 357/44 Marlins on open tickets for foxes. Pretty laid back in Tayside.

I would have thought the FEO would give an explanation for the reason as to why you should loose one calibre to obtain another , like every slot it has to be justifiable , so two similar calibres cant be justified in the eyes of the FEO . Iam mainly a .22 target shooter , with many .22s , 4 of which the FEO granted for vermin shooting . I have never had a problem getting another slot for .22 or anything else I have applied for . .

Seems to me that each Force has its own policies tacked on to the Firearms Act itself...

One of our oldest and most respected club members was once told that he had too many guns by a FEO to which he replied he didn't have enough. When asked to explain he advised that if he wanted to shoot every comp he would need at least 40 odd and that in the event of malfunction at a comp he'd need two of everything, 96 in total. He didn't get a response.
We have no problem with our Firearms folk. They listen to reason and will accept reasoned and factual argument. Perhaps something to do with them being aware of the right of an individual to sue the officer individually if an appeal is upheld!
Don't let them walk all over you.

I have to say that S Wales Police have allowed every variation I have requested, following my provision of good reason and adequate security.

They ARE lucky, a couple of years ago when I left my rifle club I asked for my .357 to be added for fox,and was told NO, it's not on the approved list. :x
But, when i've applied for a new calibre i've not had to give up one already on my FAC.
Alan :)
