Amongst a fine haul of other rifles (Moisin-Nagant, Mauser K98, SKS, Marlin .450 Marlin lever action, etc, etc) I shot a WW2 era M1 Garand the other weekend for the first time.
Wow. Such a lovely rifle. So easy to shoot. Such a big cartridge.
Nothing else, just wanted to say that.

They are section 5 unfortunately so not allowed for us mere mortals, I was privileged to have one before the semi auto ban post Hungerford.
The 30-06 is fine cartridge indeed.

There's always the "straight-pull" variant.

Nor me, I've got two & a half of them.

I have several straight pulls including a Garand and an M1 Carbine, if that's all we can have then it's better than nothing. I have also shot the semi in Vegas as well, my fav rifle.

I shot a semi-auto in original calibre a little and much more in 308, an Italian or Danish I can't remember . True, it was very nice, iconic & historic and all of that but what a lump to shoot standing . I really wanted to like it but if I am honest I did not feel the love

Yup; one 20" 1 in 8 and one 26" 1 in 7.

Technically you have three & a half considering you are caring for my straight pull at the moment ;-)
