BA09 -v- BA10

Anybody reloaded pistol rounds with BA09 / BA10 back to back so to speak?

The reason I ask is that a local gunsmith (who also runs reloading courses so I guess should know what he's talking about) insists that you should only use BA09 for reloading 9mm, never BA10.
A guy I met last week says he only uses BA10 for 9mm saying it only needs half the powder weight of BA09.

Vectan give most 9mm load data on their website for BA09 but they do mention 9mm and BA10 in the same chart, and it's true, the powder charges are about half what is recommended.

Am I being overly suspicious that the dealer is trying to sell me what suits him best? Or is there a genuine reason not to use BA10 in 9mm?

I used BA10 for 38spl back in the day and BA9 for 9mm - never tried it any other way. BA10 is very fast burning and would NOT suit a 9mm!

I'm with Roger, I never considered BA10 for 9mm when loading it as I didn't think it suitable. I did try BA9 and probably one of the reasons I stayed away from Vectan powders. Performance wasn't bad but was dirty, very dirty. Used to gum up an H&K P7 like no ones business!

Cheers chaps, opinions always appreciated, the fact that Vectan quote figures for BA10 in 9mm tend to make me think it might be worth a try, I'll see if I can cadge a bit and see, anything is better than that Maxam stuff I'm using at present.
