Dilemma.............

#1 Post by ozone »

.

I have a small dilemma.

I have 3 rifles and a shotgun and I am soon to be
moving abroad to work for between 2 and 5 years.

The shotgun is not a problem I will just gift it to my friend
and he can keep it in his safe but the rifles are a different
matter.

I either find a local RFD who will keep them, but for 2 years
minimum I'm afraid of the cost or I sell them.

I'm reluctant to sell them but it might be my only option.
My club can't store them and I can't ask anybody to store them,
but could I gift them to somebody or sell them for £1 and then
when I return home I buy them back?

Any other thoughts?

There's no reason you couldn't gift them to someone with a relevant slot, you could also have them on both your certs

I did not know you could do that with a firearms licence.
I knew you could with a shotty licence.

Would it stay on the licence until it was renewed or would
it stay on the licence even after renewal.

Out of interest, is taking them with you out of the question?

I can't see why it would come off at renewal. Supposedly you need to prove you're shooting for an FAC though...

First things first, I would contact your firearm team and have an informal chat about it, see what they say, if its two years, then its not a massive problem, you have options .... lodging them with an RFD, gifting them to a friend with vacant slots to look after etc, but if its five years, your FAC will have lapsed anyway, so you may as well sell them.

Unfortunately the Country I will be based in does not allow gun
ownership with Expats. Shame really because you can pick up a
SMLE for a few hundreds.

Definitely seems a prime candidate for joint possession, ie having them listed on both your and friend's certificates.

I will be able to visit home for about 5 weeks at a time and I can
shoot then, as long as I shoot just once a year I continue to remain
within the law. The club are OK with the situation.

That sounds like a good plan to me!
