Can never happen here, but doesn't mean it's not interesting.

Interesting, but cheaper and quicker to build a 'ghost' AK from a flat receiver blank and a parts kit.....

But would it need as much hand fitting as the usual PoS shoved out from a factory?

Are you talking ghost busters or what happens after a few pints?

I don't get how it's even newsworthy ( I don't mean on this website - but rather why the media are interested)?
In the US a firearm can be self manufactured (tho not sold|transferred) and has been permissable since like forever - so all we're talking about is the method of manufacture - so, why the interest?
I can only presume because the barrier to entry is now really really minimal, though you need a 1500 mill to do it (in this specific example)
But then, an 80% lower is available to anyone already and can be finished without a mill.
I guess one thing it shows is that just like the UK, US gun law is at time's stupid.

In America AR15 uppers have no serial numbers but the lowers have to have seriall numbers put on by the manufacturer. You can buy an upper ie barrel and bolt group put it on a home made unserialised lower and you have a ghost gun
