ok, decided 115gr is indeed the weight to go for in my SGC, i've been using canned bangs so far as i dont have a huge amount of reloading time, but as i picked up a bargain priced pro1000 i was thinking about giving it a go to save some pennies.

i've previously asked about heavier weight bullets, and was pointed mainly towards n340 for these.

so, what powder do folks find work best for 9mm in their SGC? then i'll have to go find that powder... from trawling over forums, power pistol or titegroup seems favourite.

if there was a powder that worked well in .357 and 9mm that would be a bonus

and if it was something i could get from someone at the phoenix, then i would be a very happy man

Get a copy of the Lee reloading book mate, it hasn't steered me or my dad wrong yet.

thanks, but the lee is generally regarded as being fit for the bin. my lyman 49th is a bit more highly regarded, but i do have some other info.

Mine stovepipes anything bigger, usually at least once per magazine.

I've been recommended towards Titegroup as well

Try Lovex D032, available from Westlander at the pheonix

lovex looks like a very good contender! seems to go across a few calibers too

I decided not to do powders or primers as they weren't generating any demand, they might be coming up in Google but they're not something I stock. I use D032 in .45 acp, .357 & 300Whisper, some guys at my club also use it for .44 & 9mm. It's pretty versatile.

Power pistol works as does Bullseye for 9mm.
Lee book is ok its just data and gives you a starting point, your comment fit for the bin is harsh.
knew you would end up using 115 fmj for the 9mm but not at Thorn you will be told off.

Assuming you use a conservative book starting load. The OAL and crimp are the most important things to get right for the LRR.
To short = pressure up and may also not feed well in LRR. Not enough crimp head will come out of case as bolt slams home.
Also if you are reloading S&B brass you need to uniform the primer pockets as they are smaller than standard. If you don't you will get a proud primers and that could lead to a breach explosion as the bolt hits the round. The 1000 is a 3 stage press, I use the Lee the factory crimp die to ensure good crimp and round size, if you use it you will as a separate operation.
Last thing make up some dummy rounds and test feeding before making live rounds.

I've seen people in other threads say not to use bullseye for the SGC rifles, as its too fast? or would that only be with lead boolits? (as thats what i was looking up before)

I won't be using these at thorn, don't worry. i will either use lead, or just take something else down there....

i will be using the nickel brass that i was given with the rifle, first. as that way, there is zero confusion as which is my home loaded S&B brass, and which is factory, then when i get a result i like, i can stop buying it, then its all my home loads anyway, but thanks for the heads up, i didn't know that about their 9mm brass.

I was planning to set my 9mm size/deprime die in my single stage press, clean/process those cases and hand prime. then use charge/seat/ FCD in the pro1000. Is there an issue with doing this?

Re. the Lee book, i seem to get both oppinions of it, great and s***, my view is its ok to cross reference, but i wouldn't use its info blindly. i have the lyman 49th at home, a vhit guide, the lovex and some other bits. so i should be able to sort some estimate out....

fair enough, always usefull things if you're local enough.

well lovex give load data for a 44mag 240gr soft point, so a lead bullet should be ok in it. will have mto get some and experiment, never know, it might do a nice job on all calibers!

i'll have to prod you for some loadings at some point.
