Importing from the states.

So gents, apologies if this has been tried before but I had to ask...

There's so much great stuff in the states we'd love to get our hands on but we can't unless an RFD deems there to be a market worth the paperwork and a bulk order.

I know there are some RFD's on here that regularly put in big orders from the states. Is there anyone who would be willing to collect orders from people for one off items, perhaps four orders a year for full-bore members?

I'm sure people would be willing to pay a fair rate for the work involved?

Or am I barking up the wrong ITAR?

From what I've been trying to obtain recently the stumbling block is the US export licence. Most small companies don't have one so are unable to export their goods or send goods to a third party for eventual export. I don't know if this applies to a wholesaler like Brownells.

There's quite a lot of posts about importing so worth doing a search. Depending on what you want to import and assuming you are an FAC holder - you don't need an RFD, you can import it yourself. All you need is an FFL/exporter in the states that acts as a hub to receive your parts form 3rd parties, a completed DSP-83 form, purchase order and letter from the DTI stating that as a non commercial import and FAC holder with authority to possess in UK, you do not need an import licence. You will find some US companies that don't have export licences and therefore don't export themselves are happy to ship domestically to your FFL\exporter in the states who will eventually apply for an export licence on your behalf and ship.

If you follow the correct process there aren't any stumbling blocks.

I'm kinda already doing this for accessories, and tagging the smaller orders on to my semi-regular export orders. What sort of stuff are you after?

Thanks grizzly, I know there's a process that makes it all legal and I found some guys in the states that are specialists in gathering things and exporting them but it makes no sense for lots of individuals to do this and lots of sense to find a way of clubbing together. I'm more than willing to help out here!

By the way. It was Intersec LLC that I was talking to about importing. This was on behalf of an RFD though and more substantial amounts.

Apologies for jumping into the thread like this but I'm rather keen on getting a hold of a couple of magazines for my Steyr SSG04. These are 10 round mags so no problems shipping within the USA. As always, the problem is getting them across the pond. Like Safetyfirst, I'm looking at any (legal) avenue of importing bits & bobs from US to UK.

Right, i'm in the process of getting my RFD sorted at the moment, so can't do pressure bearing or licensable parts (yet).

Other bits, no problem. Depending on availability of parts, will probably be somewhere around $ to £ retail rate.
