So which part of the tracer bullet is the head, is it the compound? is it the tip of the bullet? why do you want cut off parts of bullet? how do you reload chopped of bits of a bullet?

I know 7.62x54 is still used in Russian service and the like but who actually offers tracers for reloading? I've never heard of it

.

Oh ok, I've just had this conversation a few times with a friend whenever he's been sold tracer ammo if its legal to have. I guess its just a range restriction. Don't fire on a dry hot day when its not been raining for a while though

.
Just checked a video of 5.56 tracer rounds and given the flames my vz58 with its brake spews out, it would be a sight to behold.

A friend brought me some over from the states a few years ago. I think he picked them up from Poly Gun Bags. They were pulled bullets in 7.62x54 but they worked fine through my Enfield and Mosin. I guess they only lit up every other round but caused a slight stir at Warcop because they are green. I haven't seen any over on this side of the pond though.

I have used 308 tracer bullets in my 303.
I haven't seen any 311 tracer bullets in the UK ever.
Most of the pulled 308 bullets are total crap-most don't light up.
Even some of the loaded 308 ammo isn't that great. We call it stealth tracer!
I bought some new 308 tracer bullets a few years back and they work well.
I believe the compound deteriorates when exposed over time.

A friend of mine says he has a few rounds of "dim" tracer. Apparently it only shows up in IR.
I told him he was sold standard ball ammunition with funky markings...
