Importing firearms from abroad

Does anyone have any experience of importing firearms from abroad? Just been let down by the guy that I usually use and fancy having a go myself. Dealer abroad has appropriate export licence.

Would want to collect from Manchester.

Any idea of costs, paperwork required at this end etc?

Failing that any leads on dealers who won't charge a lung + your first born for the service?

Might be easier and cheaper to get a quick turnaround return flight and go and collect it.

Is that allowed?

I have often thought about flying to another country and buying
a rifle, then bringing it back home, would that be allowed?

Obviously all the proper documentation filled out and
authorities notified.

Regardless of method an import license is needed.

Even for a private and personal possession Christel??

I didn't need one for my S1 shotgun - just told plod and gave them the serial number in advance.

On this side costs are minimal-duty at customs, maybe. If from EU your FAC is all you need for S1,but....the hardest bit is on the other side, depends from the country.Try http://www.cpgdesign.co.uk he once quoted me 75£ for acting as middleman.Good luck-jb

Yup, you need one.

EDITED...I stand corrected, if valid slot on FAC then not needed.

From the Gov.com site

https://www.gov.uk/import-controls-on-offensive-weapons

rifles
shotguns
handguns
automatic and semi-automatic firearms
CS gas canisters, pepper sprays and other self-defence sprays
high-voltage electric stun guns
high-powered air rifles and pistols
All legitimate users of firearms must apply for the relevant import licence or certificate from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), their regional police authority or the Home Office for handguns/pistols/revolvers and automatic/semi-automatic firearms. Find your local police force on the UK police website

Importing component firearms parts is prohibited unless you have a licence for the firearm that the parts are intended for. This is because individual firearms parts can be used for reasons other than legitimate repairs - eg to reactivate firearms that have previously been modified to stop them from firing.
