Vortex Sparc 2 or strikefire or strikefire for vz58 mars
I got my scout mount yesterday from Canada. I'm wanting to mount a red dot and have narrowed it down to these two vortex's. Which one is better for scout style mounting on a vz58 (the mount replaces the rear sight as seen here http://www.bctactical.ca/products.html) Any advice on offer please?

A single red dot usually works fine in a Scout position and anything Vortex you usually can't go wrong. I have a Sptifire on my Ruger for mini-rifle because of the etched recticle in case of battery failure, and before that l had a Strikefire.
On my VZ58 l fitted a low height mount over the back dust cover and have just put back on a Burris AR-332 3x fixed with etched recticle set up for .223. This coupled to a Fab Defense folding stock with adjustable cheek riser works really well. I did have a Burris AR-536, which just about works but the 332 works better.
Vortex do a fixed 3x Spitfire which looks just like the 332 (because it is one but with a different recticle and badged Vortex). The Burris ones sometimes have a slight canting issue but is not significant on mine.
Personally l prefer the low side mount from CSA rather than a Scout positioned red dot.
Caledonian are looking at a railed dust cover at some point.

I actually have the railed dust cover, but thought I'd try this canadian mount as with it replacing the rear sight it won't have to come off all the time. But I want to give this new mount a try. So the spitfire is a good bet then?Zilberbak wrote:A single red dot usually works fine in a Scout position and anything Vortex you usually can't go wrong. So it is the spitfire on your ruger mounted scout style also?Sixshot6 wrote:I actually have the railed dust cover, but thought I'd try this canadian mount as with itZilberbak wrote:A single red dot usually works fine in a Scout position and anything Vortex you usually can't go wrong. The Spitfire is a recticle and you probably struggle with eye relief but fitted on to the back it would be ideal.
l would stick with a single red dot, l will take out the Ruger though to check out the eye relief and post back.

Just experimented with a long eye relief with 1x Spitfire and the recticle starts enlarging to the size of the tube. It still is workable as it is a circle in circle with a single red dot at centre. Would still stick to the Strikefire though or any other single red dot optic.

Makes sense. So recommend over the Sparc then? What does it for me with the extra 10 moa. Also did you check the picture of the bc tactical mount to get a mental idea of it working also?Zilberbak wrote:Just experimented with a long eye relief with 1x Spitfire and the recticle starts enlarging to the size of the tube. I have the 3x Spitfire and a low profile mount over the rear dust cover on my VZ58 mars. I have a Stormwerkz stock adapter that straightens the stock in line with the barrel, this gives me better eye alignment with the optic. The setup works really well I think.Zilberbak wrote:A single red dot usually works fine in a Scout position and anything Vortex you usually can't go wrong. I also have the BC Tactical scout mount and a Burris fastfire red dot, but Im saving this for the 9mm mars that will hopefully be available later in the year

Speaking of the Stormwerkz stock adapter, it doesn't have to come off during cleaning does it? If so it makes sense to mount a folding sight like a MBUS or the FAB defense one. It looks like I'm not the only one with bc tactical mount too.Brian838 wrote:I have the 3x Spitfire and a low profile mount over the rear dust cover on my VZ58 mars. Edit: I'm confusing the stormwerks stock adapter with something else I've seen.
