Hi

I am thinking of upgrading my front sight from a 22mm to a 30mm, should i use a riser on the rear sight and with what height 4mm or 8mm?

I have fitted a 30mm Right Sight to both my TRs. Much improved light and able to see number boards through sight tube!

I had a guide to sight setting : Set front sight to 20. Set your rear sight to 15 mins above your normal 300 setting. This will then need fine tuning for your 300 zero and you will also have your usual sight increases for 5,6 9 and 10.

Remember to use the front sight to give yourself 5 min elevation each distance plus the difference on the rear sight. I use 5 mins difference at 3,5,& 6. 45 at 9 and 50 at 10.

That's what the guys/gals do, i understand the concept, but some peolpe at 1000 their back sight is to the max and would like to avoid that so i was thinking if a riser woulls help.

Jason, by using the 30mm front sight adjustment you avoid huge rear sight alteration thereby keeping same headweld on the stock.

I don't have to use a riser, just the standard rear sight (re zeroed) and the adjustable foresight.

With a 30mm foresight your sight-line will almost certainly be higher, so I start with the foresight at its lowest setting for 1000 yards and work up from there (otherwise the sight-line may be even higher than necessary, needing a higher cheek-piece and worse problems of bolt interference).

I have plenty of elevation in the rearsight to accommodate the raised sight-line, but I've still contemplated using raising blocks so the sight arm isn't wound up as high (just in case it gets looser up there).
