Poorly finished more than poorly made but I agree I must admit that I was quite dubious as the arguments he put forward ...

Yep, the finish of them is even worse than than the fit...
From the article.
Many AK parts are file-fitted, and most manufacturers still sort components according to tolerance to achieve a fit. In contrast, manufacturing disciplines pioneered in the United States have since helped reduce or eliminate variations in parts that would prevent any given manufactured part from fitting with any other part. The AR-15 rifle constitutes a set of thoroughly-standardized parts; take any given bolt, and it will headspace properly with nearly any given barrel extension (many AR-15 builders, in fact, don’t even bother checking headspace on their builds, even if their bolts and barrel extensions from different sources). The Kalashnikov rifle is very different; for example, special attention must be paid when pressing the barrel into the trunnion, to ensure that headspace is correct.

The finish doesn't need to be good, it's a mass produced assault rifle designed to kill not look pretty and it was designed to designed to have loose fitting parts so it will keep firing when full of sand, mud or whatever crap you can fill them with.Of course everyone knows this but the haters will hate regardless. There is a multitude of different AK producers out there, from factory built rifles to handmade sat in a cave rifles and they all get lumped together but an Izhmash/Tula or Bulgarian Arsenal built AK is a different animal than a Khyber Pass made AK.

At least the Israeli's had the sense to add a bottle opener to their interpretation of the design.

The lip on a steel AK mag makes an excellent bottle opener.......
An interesting article
