I'm thinking of adding one of these to the collection
Only to be used for general plinking at 100-200m
There are so many variants, saiga, polish version, romanian version, different furniture and stocks etc
No one I know has 1, maybe a good reason for that ? Lol
So I'm after some advice

Well, right now there are seemingly no new Saiga's in the uk right now due to sanctions and the like (Russian Ammo like Barnual is still available (Westlander in Huddersfield) along with the odd batch of wolf stuff. Rusmilitary is bringing in Bulgarian AK's. See here http://www.rusmilitary.com/html/firearms_ak47.htm

If you are set on a Saiga, there is the second hand market as well. I believe some polish ones float around. It also depends on what kind of shooting you want. Longer distances with a 223 one or a cheap plinker. With that option you are better going with a 7.62x39.

Well Romanian Ak's are not rated as the best AK's. But they are built on AKM specs, which is what most people think of when an AK comes to mind. The same factory makes WASR-10's for the us, but they are actually modified sporters (sent to the US with thumbhole stocks, single stack magwells, etc) due to US import laws then modded. So their US rep is hurt by having to be modded to work as a proper AK. Built from the factory, they should be better. On the other hand the Bulgarian ones are made in the Arsenal factory and as such Bulgarian AK's are the closest thing to a Russian AK.

Someone who knows more than me will come on here to correct any errors. But anything built to AKM specs proper should be solid and reliable. Not F-Class but good. Possibly get Mark bradley to add his extended side charger if you can. Also watch this space and other spaces on the forum as an announcement may be made in the future on something interesting that you might like. Can't say anything more yet.

Well I am acting as a go between for two dealers/gunsmiths. One in the uk and one in the US. The US guy has a project that might be interesting and he has his reasons for it to be kept quiet until middle of June at least (I only know vague details right now myself for that reason). I talk with the US guy on another forum and he is sifting through the firearms act and uk guidelines (2015 ones) to see if his project is legal. When I know more and it looks like its got a good chance of going ahead. I'll ask the UK dealer/gunsmith if a regular thread can go ahead. Lets just say also that there maybe a 7.62x39 in there also ;) . Can you wait a bit?

I'll keep regular updates if and when I can (the UK dealer has promised me that I can be kept in the loop, sort of a finders "Fee" of sorts). Do you want to become my friend on here so I can tell you a bit sooner than anyone else? It may not get off the ground, but lets just say its designed for a rare area of US gun law that is tougher than UK law and as such makes it more likely to be legal than would be otherwise. It could be a couple of days before I can say anything but I will update and even if its in the negative I'll say so. So worst case you'll be free to go back to finding a straight pull AK (or even a 7.62x39 mars vz, in northern ireland, that a pistol and section 1 shottie should make it the closest to US 3 gun you'll get). But I'll still keep updates going. How does that sound?
