Possible VZ61 MARS action
As some will notice on in another post Caledonian Classic arms has a new website and a vz61 is mentioned (thanks Polemass)
Which cal do you think it should be, give a reason for it if you want.

Re: Possible VZ61 MARS action
Considering it's got a 4.5 inch barrel and is under 52cm overall as standard it's going to need quite a barrel extension.
That said, I'd love one. Perfect for our pistol cal range. Probably rather a 9x19mm as I'm not sure about component availability for the others (though I'd probably bring in from Europe, in any case).

Pics in the bottom left corner and although the section comes up "prohibited", I'd wager since the same comes up for the VZ58 MARS that its something the webdesigner has done, meaning Scott wants the section off limits for now. VZ61 rifles have existed before in the US before. I'd wager that the barrel has been extended and the can is fake it, its what it could be. Also CSA's website only mentions 32, 380 and 9mm makarov, no 9x19 mm.
32 and 380 are somewhat easy to come by, but 9mm Makarov, might be a job for Mike at Westlander. Crap there's no bat signal type emoticon. Anyway not 9mm but still good range plinkers. If overall length is needed, the wire stock may be fixed into place too.
Also the plural "Rifles" implies more than one Cal. I'm guessing the 3 I mentioned.
I did also wonder, how do you hold it when firing? Not by the shroud I guess and the mag might be a mistake. Also no optics as its got the top ejection port as one hole (at least the vz58 can be adapted).

Re: Possible VZ61 MARS action
Where's the vote button for the EVO 3??
I was sure i was going to buy a pistol calibre MARS when they were first announced, on the expectation that it would just be a 9mm VZ58 (i've even got my Guntrader advert ready for selling my .308 to pay for it!), but if its going to be the VZ61 i'm now not sure
I've played with a 'proper' vz61 and was not impressed

Things can change and remember CSA make them in the factory in the end, so that in part dictates it. If you want to know what might be the case blackstuff, its best to give CCA a call. Even if Scotts not there (he's out the country right now) someone there will answer you the full truth (my experience is Scott is very open about things when they get going).Blackstuff wrote:Where's the vote button for the EVO 3??![]()

Also there was no EVO 3 button as I didn't remember it at the time and CSA doesn't make it CZ does. But for the most part blackstuff don't just rely on the boards for answers. CCA is a phone call away.

Re: Possible VZ61 MARS action
On the CCA Facebook page, there is a photo showing 'New piston and plug for 9mm VZ58' dated 19th Jan. I caught up with Scott at the British shooting show, he said that the reason that the 9mm version was taking more time, was because he wanted to do a gas piston version, rather than just simple blow back.
I have the money already burning a hole in my pocket and a spare slot for the 9x19 VZ58, I will be very unhappy if this is shelved for .32 Skorpion version

Re: Possible VZ61 MARS action
Got this back from Feroza;
Hi Mark,
The site is a work in progress and probably gone up a little too soon, but we have serious internet and phone problems and haven't been able to complete, but it's still an improvement on what we had!...
The VZ61 will be .22LR. Long term may put a MARS type action, but not immediately. The 9mm MARS we are working on is based on the VZ.58.
Kind regards,
Feroza
