Eotech holographic sights with magnifiers

I've just read an article that says Eotechs with a magnifier behind behave like second focal plane scopes and only magnify the target image and NOT the reticle which I'm finding hard to believe.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Rob.

Yes it's bo...cks, the Eotech's reticle get's larger when viewed through a magnifier.

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought it was too good to be true.
Pity as i think it would have sorted my 'which sight option to go for' dilemma for my Colt M4 .22.
Having said that it would only make it a 3MOA dot at 3X which could still be useable.

I've been using a 512 & Eotech magnifier for the last 4 years on my .22 AR & it's a great set up, believe me although the reticle gets bigger the centre dot is certainly not 3 moa it's still tiny & you can still do precision shooting with it.

Thanks Airbrush.
I'm thinking of an XPS2.0 and a Vortex magnifier.
If you don't mind me asking, what do you use yours for? I'm concerned that the magnifier interferes with target aquisition but I haven't tried it. I'm hoping someone will be at Shield tomorrow with something similar I can look at.

I had the original Eotech magnifier but upgraded to the G33 when they came out, cracking bit of kit but not cheap. I use mine for club gallery rifle 25 & 50 yards & the odd bit of bunny shooting. A mate of mine has a similar set up with the XPS 2.
If you ever get down to Bisley give me a shout & you can have a look through mine if you don't get any luck locally.

I'll be using it more for practical mini-rifle or multigun so I'll be looking carefully at what others are using at the comp tomorrow.
If I'm up Bisley way I'll let you know, many thanks for the offer.

A magnifier between the reticle and your eye will magnify both the reticle and image. Thus the moa circles of the reticle will remain the same. For purpose of example, if you had the magnifier on the other side of the eotech then the image would be larger but the reticle would remain the same, thus acting like a SFP. Does that make sense?

Yep, magnifier will magnify both target image and reticle so all will be proportionally the same. Indeed, the 65moa ring on the Eotech can also be used as a ranging tool, so it retains this ability under the magnifier.
Nothing to worry about; I actually find that the Eotech reticle sharpens up even more when using a magnifier (XPS2-0 & G33)

I'd imagine you'll find most people don't use any magnification for mini-rifle comps as it slows most people down, and given that targets are rarely presented over 25m its easy enough to hit the A zone with irons/unmagnified red-dots
