Ammo on FAC but not firearm

I recently sold a .303 rifle from my FAC but does the ammo provision still remain after the firearm is sold. The reason I ask is that although I don't shoot .303 it is my intention to reload for a youngster I mentor. Any ammo I give him I intend to enter on his ticket as a gift. Any problems with this arrangement? He has a .303 rifle and ammo provision on his FAC.

Would have though that good reason for having the ammo was having the rifle so "no rifle - no good reason" for the ammo. Is the .303 slot still open?

Probably off the mark but you had 12 looks so far and no answers so just my thoughts. Many on here will know better. any???? any????

I think a call to your FLO would be a plan, it's one of those vagueries of the licensing system that might differ from County to County.

I would have thought you could argue that Access to a rifle is good enough reason. Say you have access to a club rifle, but reload for accuracy, why couldn't you have ammo on your ticket without a rifle...?

Agreed with Alan though, call the FLO for a definitive answer...

I've got 7.62 allowance on mine and no slot for a rifle! It's been back twice for other variations too!

I would explain that to your firearms licensing department and see if they agree that it is good reason for you to have 303 ammunition on your ticket.

Personally I wouldn't handload ammunition for someone else and the FEO might think that as well, you could end up getting into HSE issues with liability insurance and such like. However if you were to use it to buy factory when you saw it for giving to the lad then that might be simpler.

Is that due to oversight on their part or in response to a request from you to have the ammunition without a firearm?

Purely oversight, though I've mentioned it to them and they've said it's fine, but they can remove it if I want, the same as my S1 shotgun ammunition.

Should've done a free one-for-one at time of sale. Then again as variations are only £20 now i'd probably just apply for the slot again ;)
