Looking to upgrade to peltor a mate said that he uses the sportac however when searching the internet, the sportec only provides 26 db reduction and the protec gives 32 db reduction. Also saw something about the sportec not suitable protection against rifle fire
Can anyone help ?

I've had Sportacs for the last 5 years and have no worries about them not protecting my hearing. If you search the bay you'll find them for around £90.

I have tried the Pro Tac however I prefer the MSR Sordin Pro X and have been using them for years without issues, attenuation and sound quality are both superb.

Good morning
I use protac 11 , excellent noise protection, only downside is the size, you might want to try a pair using your rifle before committing.

I don't mind paying extra (£124 for the protac vs £96 for the sportac ) just don't know which one is ideal for range work ! One here replied said he uses the sportac and it's good in his opinion
Until now have been using industrial ear muffs non electric which cost £24 a few years back

I would argue that you should get the set that fit you best and stay in place when you mount your rifle in your normal position.
No good having the Carlos fandango set if they don't fit!

I've been using Sportac for the past year, however I've got fed-up of the speed at which they gobble batteries (4x AAA at a go), they can easily get switched on in transit, and tend to fall apart - the microphone covers come off.
I've just upgraded to a set of MSA Sordin Pro X which are in a different league altogether, and the gel-filled seals are pure luxury.
