I was wondering how small arms are selected for the SAS, obviously individual soldiers can not choose what firearm they carry. What would they be looking for in a rifle for example. :)

Whatever they're issued by the Govt after stringent tests and evaluation for whatever role the weapon is required for.

Never, who would have though that was the case. SBS are probably different though.

Small Arms School Corps might get involved, but the regiment itself are surely adult enough to know what they need to get the job done.

They are chosen by a select group of people. Each weapon selected is for the operational requirements below.

1 Must work
2 Must look as cool as possible
3 Must not be on general issue to rest of Army
4 Must run on cordite so McNab can fully describe the smell in his books.

But at the end of the day why does any one give a rats bum how UkSF runs its procurement. shakeshout
