HI
founds some posts that say its fine having lead .357 bullets through a 9mm barrel.
i have some 140gr lead RNFP bullets from jon at JD reloading and some 137gr TC. would these be ok to use? and if so, what sort of load data do i need to use?
in the lyman 49th, it shows 147gr bullets, but not 140gr
here is a pic of the bullet types
any help is appriciated

You need to slug your barrel to know how appropriate the bullets may be.

Viht 340 or 3N37 is best for these heavy boolits in 9mm (or Alliant Blue Dot)

Loading 158gn 0.357" JSPs or JHPs in 9mm Para was a common practice pre Dunblane by the Long-Range Service Pistol guys. The use of the 9mm Browning GP35 in nearly out of the box spec was mandatory and they shot at not particularly large targets at 200 and 300 yards.
The guy (Clive somebody) who wrote pistol / revolver handloading articles in the old 'Target Gun' magazine for years and years when it was the NPA journal pioneered this technique and the accuracy was in a different league from standard 9mm jacketed ammo. Loads were 'hot', but you had to know what you were doing as pressures spiked to dangerous levels very quickly - a 0.1gn charge increase could push the load over the edge.

i can't slug it yet as ovenpaa has it atm.
i'm just looking to see if there were established loadings for some out there, to enable me to empty a few mags (lead only) at the range on monday night, until i can get to the other range week after next where i can shoot fmj. also to get more time to buy some bits etc.

I used to use 140g truncated cone in my glock 17 , with blue dot.
I even managed some 158g lswc loads that made major but we're unreliable feeders .
I'll see if I can dig my data out ?

yes please Tackb, any info is useful
but looking in my manuals, and with what rog says, N340 may be a way to go. i see blue dot has a about 1/3 higher grain count to n340, is the vhit tubular like n320? what consistency is bluedot? would the bluedot work easier in an autodisk for eg?
