Warning re. Social Media

I came across an article, which was a transcript of a talk given to some shooters by a lawyer who knows his stuff about firearms and licencing, etc. (will try to dig out the link and post it later).

Some of the warnings he made were stuff I knew about, but one was quite an eye opener.

He quoted a case where an application for an FAC was refused on the grounds that the applicant "had links with criminals". The applicant was stunned by this, as he was unaware that he'd ever met a criminal, let alone had links with one, so he got in touch with the local FLO, and was even more stunned to be told that the "links" in question were to people he had accepted as 'friends' on Facebook!

So, if you use any of those social networking sites, be extremely careful about who you 'befriend', and whose offer of 'friendship' you accept.

Mind how you go, eh?

Jack

Six degrees of separation away from any villain you could mention.

Yet another good reason I don't bother with it! Mind you have to decide where it draw the line with these things. I personally wouldn't call a "friend" on the book of faces a link

I don't bother with Facebook etc, if I want to speak to my friends I'll either call them or pop round to see them.Folks at work message each other and post "their status" on Facebook and then spend the next day talking about what they posted to each other the night before!!!, I can't see the point in it all as who wants to know you've had two cups of tea, watched Eastenders and you're going to bed!!!.Some people must have too much time on their hands.

All of my facebook friends are people I've met. Having lived in 3 different countries with friends and family all over the world it's the easiest way to stay in touch.
If any of them were involved in serious criminal activity I'd unfriend them faster than you can say selfie.

That's the one, Gaz - and thank you for posting the other link too, which I'll read up later. The legal side of our sport is a bit of a minefield, and forewarned is definitely forearmed!

Cheers,

Jack
