First use of milsurp 54R leads to short Nagant session.

Bought small packet of milsurp 7.62x54R this weekend as local dealer run out of PRVI. ( then found someone else with loads)

So, Sunday, fired first shot (25yrds) and most impressed as it went just about where I wanted it, recoil was loads less than privi.
Second shot also well placed but..
The sand bunker lit up like a flare!
Sent another to join it just in case it was a one off. Nope, I had a pack of tracer which meant I had to stop shooting it.

So, my question is: Where can I shoot tracer?
Also, is the burny stuff on the outside of the bullet? ( the black paint on tip? )
If so can I remove it easily?

No, the blackstuff is just paint or lacquer to indicate the rounds are tracer. The trace composition is inside the bullet, exposed and ignited via the base. You're allowed to shoot it at Zeppelins, or donate it to the sett armoury.

Why don't you think about reloading? If you've kept the Privi brass which is not bad for reloading with you've got a head start :good:

And as when the Soviet aggressors picked on their small Nordic neighbour, they were fated to LOSE

Maybe another (better) option would be to PM the name of the RFD, then someone can approach said RFD directly, as:

A. He/she may have missed the fact that what they have for sale was/is tracer - so not kosher for the majority of ranges
&
B. Someone can see how many rounds of this the RFD is sitting on, with a view to making them a F~B Group Buy offer

.308 dia tracer bullets are easy-ish to source for reloaders, though not as easy as I can source 6.5 tracer :good:

While I don't yet have a lovely Finnish made 7.62 x 53, I'd be happy to make a start on the ammo fort in advance of my sourcing said slayer of Soviet aggressors...tracer would be nice to have for the days out on FFR's

Maybe we should organise a Noise Magnet day, complete with coloured lights...
