Well, I wanted to make a lighter handguard for my STI Valkyrie to balance the Lantac Dragon comp and I am quite satisfied with the results.
Materials: 2mm thick CF tube, aluminium pipe, military-grade epoxy glue.
The CF tube was sized and laser cut at 12, 6, 9, 10, 1 and 2 o'clock to allow cooling and equipment mounting. The aluminium tube was machined to size and had threads cut to match the original handguard. Then it was anodized in black. All this was epoxied together.
And voila - a drop-in handguard that is 1 inch longer, (13 instead of 12 inches) and weights more than 7 oz less than the original one :)
Costs - around 60 quid.
