NRA Probationary Fees, erm... what?

Hello, all.

How is everyone? Haven't posted in a while, but I still lurk... I see you back there. ;)

Okay, so 2015, a new year for shootin' says I. A new year to start from scratch and finally get one's bum into gear and enjoy the sport that I sort of do on again off again. Huzzar!

Good news, I've got two family members that want to join too, great says I, more shooty people and a family activity to boot.

Lo, the peasant (me) did contact the NRA and was blown away that the joining fee is £460-odd for each member! :o It does drop to £290.00 as one of my family member's is under 25.

May I be so bold as to state: WHAT THE FRAK, NRA!?

Can I ask, am I the only one that thinks that's disgusting? So, I need to fork out about £1,000.00 before two members can even join or handle a firearm.

Apparently it's me, though. I was informed by the NRA office that that fee is reasonable and cheap, not only that, but all their probationary courses are full.

Is that me, or is that the most stupid thing that's possible been mentioned by the NRA membership office?

I was even told to "try a local club."

Thank you for making me feel about an inch tall, NRA.

I've written to the CEO... 'cos that'll help.

It surely can't be just me that's disgusted by this?

Hey, Chuck.

Good to be back. :good:

Seriously, though, what the hell... that's, that's... well, I cannot find in the English language the words for how I feel about this.

That fee is stupid.

But... Maybe this is a new thing where they are saving up to pay the legal bill for the stuff that got stolen....

Mark

Just re read op post.... Is that 460 every year or just the first?

Also does it not say 78 quid on the website??

That be the membership fee... however, if you're joining as a probationary member it's the membership fee PLUS the £460 probationary course fee.

Look for a better club.

One that shoots at Bisley if that is a convenient range for you.

All my clubs will put probationers through their Safe Shooting certificate just as part of their membership.

I joined the Old Sergeants Mess at Bisley. Probationary course was about £120 spread over 2 days separated by a few weeks (last day for me was yesterday). Even the 3 day F class course this week is only £140.
Do you get a free rifle with the £460 course??
