Lothar Walther Barrels.

Last weekend I picked up a sporterized Swedish Mauser, the barrel on the rifle is well shot out but the rifle also came with a brand new barrel for the Swedish Mauser made by Lothar Walther ready to go on the rifle. I have never had any experience of LW barrels so I was wondering if any of the folks on here had and what was your opinion of them.

Looking around the internet I have found many differences of opinions on them ranging from total crap to pretty good accuracy wise. So I guess what I'm looking for here is do you have a WL barrel on a rifle and how does it shoot for you. If any of you guys have actually fitted a WL barrel yourselves is there any little quirks that they have when fitting as I will be fitting the barrel myself.

I have 2 for my dta and they are stunning. My 308 barrel which I have fully developed a load for will shoot tiny groups the 243 seems to just shoot any load I've put through it as well! Awesome barrels!

I've got a couple too, including on my .50bmg. I like them!

Thanks guys, it's good to read something positive on them. Anyone else? Particularly anyone who has fitted one or more themselves.

Not fitted one myself but I have one in .45 on my Rem700 and it's more accurate than I am!

Some of them, the polygonal rifled ones we think, are made from a rather good grade of stainless that seems to last forever

The "special" steel is much harder and is known for lasting longer than normal steel barrels. Some smiths refuse to chamber them

Badger, yeah I've heard similar. The barrel I have isn't stainless but at the price I paid for both rifle and barrel I've no complaints.

Yeah I have read that they have been known to break reamers.

I believe they just require carbide reemers to chamber them :)
