Short barrelled .308 - how short have you gone ?

Have any of you cut down your .308 rifles to sub 16" ?
Would be interested to hear the results...............

Not sub 16" but my dta is 16" and it's awesome. 1000 yd capable shoots better than me!

I shot a bench rest pistol in 30-06 with a barrel of about 10-12 inches. nice grouping at 900 yards after the first shot.
The first shot consisted of the pistol coming up and twatting me on the top of my head.

I am looking at shortening an AR10 maybe as low as 12"..............

It will be loud! That's the only negative I've found with my rifle. Without a mod it's ruddy loud!!!

Will definately be suppressed - intend to use it for deer as well as target.

Go for it then mate! I love my 16" 308 barrel! And velocity loss has been less than your think. I did get the 155 hbc going at 2770 but accuracy node is around 2675-2700.

What loads are you using to get the 155 going at those speeds in such a short barrel?

I had a FAL with a 13" barrel, I don't anymore as it wouldn't shoot much past 400m, from a 100m zero the drop was around 40 moa. If all you want it for is short range fun or CQB matches then happy days.

Top speed was something like 47 grains of ramshot wildbore. But my accuracy load is 46.3 grains
