Don't buy a thing until you have really put in the research time as you can waste an awful lot of cash buying and then replacing kit.........I can send you a list of what I consider to be basic / essential items but its more what standard of gear you want and/or can afford.

It's a difficult one this as to make the best decision now you really need to know what you'll be reloading later. For example if you're likely to just load a few handloads for one calibre then a single stage press and a set of dies would be fine but if you're likely to be loading two rifle and a pistol caliber every week you want a turret press where you can swap out the die holder with all the dies setup nicely and crack on with it. Maybe start with a rough idea of what you think you might be reloading in 12 months time. If you just want to tinker then a hand press, set of basic dies, a second hand tumbler and some good scales can all be had for a hundred and a bit if you shop around. Perhaps consider going on a reloading course to get a feel for the many intricacies involved and ask some questions there, the knowledge and practice alone will be worth the price of the course.

The first thing any new reloader should buy is a large supply of sticky labels.

Label every bloody thing, especially decanted powders. razz

Then sell a Kidney, you will never stop spending.

If you go to the 'reloading and ammunition' section and read down the topics there's loads of info...

...this recent topic covers some lists and opinions on kit...http://www.full-bore.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=20539

This is a fairly normal setup. I have no idea about second hand prices though. I would say you'll be forced to buy some of this new unless you're prepared to wait.

single stage press
shell holder(s)
dies (full length resizing/decap die + seating die)
powder thrower
beam scale
case trimmer
digital calipers (don't buy cheap ones too much play in my experience)
dry tumbler + walnut media
deburring tool
case lube kit
powder funnel
powder trickler
reloading manual
case loading block
safety glasses

I'd say just buy a kit you can afford and start there.

Forget the reloading courses, and forget about turret or progressive presses get an experienced reloader to show you what's involved and always start with a decent single stage press.
It's not rocket science and it doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg. If after having the process demonstrated to you and you decide to proceed go out and buy a decent reloading manual and read it more than once.
