There's a shared firearm that a few members at my club own that I'm thinking of "buying into", but I'm not entirely sure about the situation of having a firearm on my certificate and not necessarily knowing where it is at any given time (as it's shared between a number of people).

Any experiences/thoughts on this sort of arrangement?

No, something fun, but that I'd rather get into for less than the price of my own gun (for now, at least) and put the money towards other firearms. I'm not too worried about the financial aspect of it, just the legal responsibility/licensing side of things.

No, this is on individual certs.

No, this is a .22 LBP.

Shared guns are common enough, albeit its usually between members of a family or partners. The firearms details are simply entered onto the FAC as if it were in your sole possession.

When I, as an RFD, sell a shared firearm, I take care to clearly inform the Police (both forces, if different) that the firearm is shared and that it was was entered onto both FACs. I'm sure the Police never get confused about this issue (cough).

I've never heard of an incident, but I imagine if were used in a crime and left at the scene, the Police would do a whodunnit by speaking to everyone who has the firearm listed on an FAC.

I don't think having a shared firearm implies any sort of liability over its use by others.

I know of a few people who do this for LBP's and S1 shotguns. As has been said already, you just get the gun added to your certificate too, just make sure your FLD is aware its a 'share' gun

Not a problem usually, I'm adding my LBP and sec1 shotgun to a friends ticket soon so we can shoot together at comps for half the price. If in doubt, just call your FEO, they're supposed to be there to help :)
