Changing from SMK 2155 to 2156

I'm coming to the end of a box of 500 SMK 2155s and have a box of 2156s ready to go. I only tend to load a standard TR load of 45.5 grains of Viht N140 in a Lapua or RWS case. My problem is that I don't have ready access to a 100 yard range to zero. Until I can do some proper load work is it reasonable to continue with the same load? I'll obviously be looking at the seating depth etc.

Absolutely no problem in using the same load. Out to 600 yds you should not notice any significant elevation differences. Over 600 yds you will use less elevation. Typically out of a 30" barrel you will probably use 4 to 5 minutes less elevation at 1000yds using the 2156 over the 2155.
In my rifles I use my 900 yd 2155 elevation at a 1000 yds when using 2156s. My load is a bit stiffer than yours but you should see similar results.
What you will notice is that at the longer distances of 800yds and up, you will use less wind and you may find that you have a ½ to ¾ minute wind zero shift.

Load the 2156 to an OAL of 2.9" and the ogives will be in the same place as the 2155, I fact don't even bother adjusting the seating die between the two bullets as the jump will set itself correctly. I have loaded over 30,000 of these bullets and speak from real competitive experience.

Thanks Steve - yet again my 'go to' source of authoritative TR advice! One day, during one of my sadly infrequent trips to Bisley, I'll buy you a pint or three.

That has to depend on where you place the ogive of a 2155.

Do you mean: compared to factory (circa 2.8" COAL)?

Last time I set up 2156 so the ogive matched RUAG 2155-based ammo the resulting 2156 COAL was 2.865" (the mean RUAG COAL was 2.785").

2155. I believe the new NRA GGG stuff (GUAG?) will also use 2155.
