Hi all,

I know that .223 has almost no recoil, however, when shooting IPSC I need as quick follow-up shot as possible. The Nordic Tactical muzzle brake that came stock mounted on my STI AR-15 gives a distinct "push" to the left instead of straight-back recoil. There is almost no muzzle climb but compensating from left to right can be a PITA sometimes on 80-100 yds targets.

Since the ITAR regulations are really strict now, I cannot get a muzzle brake from any US dealer/manufacturer.

I am interested only in muzzle brakes, not in flash hiders or sound moderators, and since I use my AR-15 only for competitive shooting, the noise level and the side blast are not an issue.

If anyone has experience with a muzzle brake from an EU-based dealer/manufacturer I'd be grateful if he chimes in.

I have the Tac-brake, but the radial-port model may be more suitable for the .223 rifle.

I would say look to mainland Europe as in theory a muzzle brake cannot be exported from the UK to Europe without the correct licence - Try jasper at http://www.bold-action.com/ as he deals with AR platforms also there is Jens Nielsen in DK http://www.nielsengunparts.com, he builds tunable brakes which work superbly well even though they lack the tactical look.

Ovenpaa I'm not into tactical looks, so thanks a lot for the advice! I was not aware of UK export regulations since a muzzle brake is not considered a gun part in my country.

Lantac Dragon, if it's really quick follow ups shots you need, or controlled pairs with minimal dispersion look no further.

BamBam I have read mixed reviews of the Dragon - have you shot with it? I've tried my friends' JP tank brake and SureFire MB556 and there's almost no difference except in weight. The Dragon looks cool and it's light - I'll do my best to try it on my next trip to the UK.

I was lucky enough to be in the USA the first time I tried a Dragon. It was on the muzzle of a carbine gas AR and I double tapped a 6" steel plate that was around 50 yards away. That trip I tried out a few other brakes and still the Dragon felt the best at taming the various types of AR I shot with different barrel and gas system lengths.

On my straight pull AR it's still amazing how little the rifle moves when shooting 62gr NATO rounds.
