AR 15 Colt upper receiver group for Christmas

Had an opportunity to pick up a new, complete Colt carbine lightweight barrel upper for my AR15 rifle at a very good price so I jumped on it. Now I have an A2 20" heavy barrel upper, the 16" lightweight barrel, and via an Atchison style insert, a .22 rimfire rifle. I'm becoming more and more fond of the AR! It is almost unfair how easy it is to shoot the HB version especially with the two stage trigger. Point, squeeze, and hit!

Very nice Christmas present.

I am waiting for the gun fairy to bring me a complete upper with a light contour 16 inch barrel and a medium-length gas system. Unfortunately I think I'll just have to break down and buy one.

I have the parts to assemble a new lower to go with it - it's just a matter of finding the time.

I considered getting another lower group for the new upper but these days buying a long arm in California is as much of a hassle as buying a handgun so I passed on it and just went with the upper. I like the way I can get multiple configurations for the same lower. Next up may be a 6.8mm upper.

California - nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. Now Montana, there's a place I might want to live. I lived in Alberta for a while, and the land is similar enough that I could feel right at home. Out there the border is a line on a map - doesn't change the country-side. I really like their gun laws too - much better than Canada's.

I've lived in Colorado but won't be returning there when I leave California in five years at retirement. I'm headed to southern Utah. Great scenery, great hiking, great off-roading, great folks, great gun laws. Montana is super nice but turning into a rich man's paradise as the ultra wealthy are buying up immense tracts of land and closing them off.

Very nice looking rifle there and I know what you mean about being so easy to shoot, I have to say that the AR's I own are probably my most favourite rifles. Where did you buy the upper from?

Grandfather rights?

I thought Cali had a "no Assault rifle" ban :(

They aren't banned per se but the do have a lot of rules and silly restictions regarding ownership of them. The link below will answer some questions on it.

I've seen some AR and AK series rifles on arfcom etc that have a strange looking adapter thing on the pistol grip, is that one of the restrictions?.
