Home Office has changed its stance on this EU directive.

"19th December 2014. No. 41

The Home Office has revisited its position on the implementation of article 4(4) of the EU Weapons Directive 2008/51 (amending Council Directive 91/477).

“We, the Home Office, appreciate that it is not ideal to be changing our approach at this late stage. However, we have reconsidered the scope of the requirements and have decided that rather than mandating firearms dealers to computerise their records we will rely on the National Firearms Licensing Management System (NFLMS), with both police and firearms dealers continuing to record information at current levels. Records will still need to be recorded and maintained for 20 years. This means that firearms dealers can continue to keep paper-based records although we would continue to recommend computerised records as a matter of best practice.” "

Was that all just because of the computerised register?
He must really hate computers.

But it has been something of a contentious issue for a while, last renewal I was told I could keep a computerised register as the main register (then it became a must -and now apparently only recommended), but at all the renewals before that and the initial grant I was told it must be a paper register and not a loose leaf system at that.

The insistence on a paper one I can understand as it is harder to add and alter entries at a later date without it being obvious, with the electronic one I use I could go back and alter or add any record at any time without it being noticed.

He binned it PURELY due to the PC issue...he doesn't own or use one.

Several of us even offered to do it for him

Too late though.
He'll be fuming when he finds out about the backdown!!

Interesting as my FEO advised me only last month that the paper system ended on Dec 31st this year and that ammunition sales were NOT required to be kept on the electronic system!!!!

Can't really argue that one!

You would of thought that they would of considered the full scope of the directive before implementing new regulations!!
